Sourcing Cars The Right Way
We don’t buy cars through agents, brokers or export-yard spreadsheets. We buy them ourselves in Japan and Singapore, inspect them in person, prepare them before shipment and deliver them UK-registered and forecourt-ready with a fresh no advisory MOT.
This direct presence in both markets means we purchase vehicles locally, attend auctions ourselves, inspect any vehicle we want and bid directly, as well as source cars through local trade dealer networks.
The Remote Buying Problem
Most import stock is bought at a distance — from auction sheets, exporter lists, broker messages or wholesale spreadsheets. Those tools can be useful, but they only show part of the story. They don’t tell you how long a car has been sitting, what has been missed, whether the car feels right in person, or whether it is the right unit to buy at all.
Pitlane stock is different because the car has already completed that journey before it is offered to you. By then it is in the UK, registered, freshly MOT’d and prepared for retail. Each vehicle also comes with a detailed file showing its inspection, service, preparation, photos, videos and pre-MOT condition report, so you can see exactly what you are buying before you commit.
We Inspect Every Car
Pitlane buys directly from the domestic market — from franchise dealers, auctions and private sellers — and every vehicle is inspected in person before we decide to buy it.
Because we control the sourcing ourselves, we are free to walk away from anything that doesn’t meet our standards. In practice we reject more cars than we purchase. Our focus is on lower-mileage, higher-spec vehicles that have been properly maintained — the kind of cars that reflect the standards you would expect from markets like Japan and Singapore.
Prepared Before Shipment
Once we purchase a car, it moves to our workshop in Japan or Singapore before it leaves the country. Any issues found in our inspection are addressed, fluids and filters are serviced, brakes and tyres are checked or replaced where required, and UK-spec changes are carried out where needed, including MPH speedometer settings and English language systems.
The aim is simple: the car should arrive in the UK forecourt-ready, with the service, wearables and inspection items handled to support a clean, no-advisory MOT. Every vehicle file includes the condition report, wearables checks, preparation notes, photos, videos and invoices, so the dealer can see exactly what was done before the car landed.
Imported, Registered, Ready To Sell
By the time a Pitlane car is offered to dealers, the slow and uncertain part of importing has already been handled. The car is in the UK, import duties and taxes are dealt with, DVLA registration is complete, UK plates are issued and the MOT is done.
It is still import-priced stock, but without the usual wait, paperwork risk or money tied up for months while the car is at sea, in prep or awaiting registration. If you want to move quickly, the supplied photos and videos can also be used to build the listing even before the car reaches your forecourt.
